White Ash wood possesses decent strength properties for its weight and is shock resistant. It has high elasticity which makes it a popular choice for bows and steam bending projects. Applying a stain to Ash produces a similar look to Red Oak.
Ash trees are currently under attack from invasive emerald ash borer in the US. This has steadily increased the price and reduced the availability of wider stock. This has caused the wormy look in the grain of the wood.
